Craft & process

Thread → Weave → Craft → Finish → You

Nothing here is fast. A single festive saree takes eleven days at the loom, and roughly a third of that time produces nothing you can see.

  1. Fine cotton and silk thread in the Kota Doria weave

    01 · Thread

    Cotton and mulberry silk, counted

Yarn is sourced in small lots, degummed and sized with rice starch before it ever reaches a loom.

  2. Weaver's hands at a wooden pit loom

    02 · Weave

    The khat, square by square

Eight cotton and six silk threads make one khat. A weaver holds that count across six metres.

  3. Looms and dyed thread hanging in a Kota workshop

    03 · Craft

Zari and buti, inserted by hand

Borders and motifs are added at the loom with separate spools — never printed, never applied later.

  4. Finished sarees folded and stacked

    04 · Finish

    Washed, checked, folded

Each saree is washed, inspected against light, and folded in muslin at our Kota studio.

  5. Woman wearing a cream Kota Doria saree in a sunlit courtyard

    05 · You

    Sent, and worn

Shipped insured with the weaver's name on the card inside the box.
